Provisioning Remote AP at Home

The following section provides information on provisioning yourRemote ApRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.at home using a static IP address,PPPoEPoint-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. PPPoE is a method of connecting to the Internet, typically used with DSL services, where the client connects to the DSL modem.connection, orUSBUniversal Serial Bus. USB is a connection standard that offers a common interface for communication between the external devices and a computer. USB is the most common port used in the client devices.modem.

Prerequisites

Follow the steps below to acquire a static IP address before provisioning theRemote APRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.at home:

1.Connect theRemote APRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.at the site of deployment and ensure that it has connectivity to the Internet to reach themanaged device.

2.Connect a laptop to Port 1 of theRemote APRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.to get an IP address from theRemote APRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.'s internalDHCPDynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A network protocol that enables a server to automatically assign an IP address to an IP-enabled device from a defined range of numbers configured for a given network.pool.

Provisioning Remote AP Using ZTP

You provision theRemote APRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.using provisioning wizard:

1.Navigate to theRemote APRemote APs extend corporate network to the users working from home or at temporary work sites. Remote APs are deplyed at branch office sites and are connected to the central network on a WAN link.configurationURLUniform Resource Locator. URL is a global address used for locating web resources on the Internet.: http://rapconsole.arubanetworks.com .

2.Enter the IP address or hostname of themanaged device.

3.Click theShow Advanced Settingslink, shown inFigure 1.

4.In theAdvanced Settingswizard, you can select one of the following:

a.Static IP—Select this tab to provision your Remote AP using a static IP address.

b.PPPoE—Select this tab to provision your Remote AP on a PPPoE connection.

c.USB—Select this tab to provision your Remote AP using 3G/EVDO USB modem.

Provisioning the Remote AP using a Static IP Address

Parameter

Description

IP Address

Enter the static IP address that you want to configure for your remote access point.

Netmask

Enter the network mask.

Gateway

Enter the defaultgatewayGateway is a network node that allows traffic to flow in and out of the network.IP address of your network.

Primary DNS

Enter the IP address of your primaryDNSDomain Name System. A DNS server functions as a phone book for the intranet and Internet users. It converts human-readable computer host names into IP addresses and IP addresses into host names. It stores several records for a domain name such as an address 'A' record, name server (NS), and mail exchanger (MX) records. The Address 'A' record is the most important record that is stored in a DNS server, because it provides the required IP address for a network peripheral or element.server. This is an optional parameter.

Domain

Enter your domain name. This is an optional parameter.

ClickSaveafter you have entered all the details.

Provision the Remote AP on a PPPoE Connection

Parameter

Description

Service Name

Enter thePPPoEPoint-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. PPPoE is a method of connecting to the Internet, typically used with DSL services, where the client connects to the DSL modem.service name provided to you by your service provider. This parameter is optional.

Username

Enter the user name for thePPPoEPoint-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. PPPoE is a method of connecting to the Internet, typically used with DSL services, where the client connects to the DSL modem.connection.

Password

Enter yourPPPoEPoint-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. PPPoE is a method of connecting to the Internet, typically used with DSL services, where the client connects to the DSL modem.password.

ClickSaveafter you have entered all the details.

Using 3G/EVDO USB Modems

The following procedure illustrates provisioning your Remote AP using a 3G/EVDO USB modem.

1.Select theUSBtab and select your modem from the drop-down list. Configuration details automatically appear for some common modems.

2.If your modem name is not listed, selectOtherand manually enter the following details. These are available from the manufacturer of your modem or from your IT administrator:
